• Space After – sets the amount of blank space after/below a paragraph. Helpful on heading paragraphs so that there is
some extra blank (white) space below the paragraph (e.g., eliminates the need to add blank/orphan paragraphs after the
heading) (in the screenshot above, the space after for the paragraph is set to 12 pt – or 1 line)
• 30BKeep With Next – used to keep paragraphs together (i.e., keep the selected paragraph with the start of the next
paragraph). This can be helpful with headings, to ensure that if the paragraph immediately below a heading starts at the
top of new page that the heading is not “orphaned” at the bottom of the previous page (i.e., it stays with the first
paragraph on the same page)
• 31BKeep Together – used to keep any selected text together. For example, suppose you have a 4-line paragraph and you do
not want that paragraph to ever split between two pages. Selecting Keep Together for that paragraph will ensure that
those 4 lines are always on the same page.
• 32BPage Break Before – used to force a page break before the paragraph. For example, suppose you want each of your
headings to start on a new page in the document. By updating the paragraph settings for the paragraph to set a page
break before, that heading will always start a new page, no matter where it falls in the document. Using this setting
eliminates the need for a manual page break or the need to hit return multiple times to get to a new page.
