The higher nerve centers are located in the convolutions. Thus, in the area of the
anterior central gyrus of the frontal lobe there are higher centers of voluntary
movements, and in the area of the posterior central gyrus there are centers of skin–
muscle sensitivity.
In the cerebral cortex, sensitive and motor zones are distinguished. The sensitive
areas receive signals from the organs of vision, hearing, taste, skin, internal organs,
muscles, tendons.
When the neurons of the sensitive zones are excited, sensations arise.
To date, the cortex has been mapped in detail and the representations of each
muscle, each skin area in the cortex of the large hemispheres, as well as those areas of
the cortex in which certain sensations are formed are precisely known.
In the occipital lobe are the highest centers of visual sensations. This is where
the visual image is formed. Information to the neurons of the occipital lobe comes from
the visual nuclei of the thalamus.
In the temporal lobes there are higher auditory centers containing various types
of neurons: some of them react to the beginning of sound, others to a certain frequency
band, and others to a certain rhythm. Information in this area comes from the auditory
nuclei of the thalamus.
The centers of taste and smell are located deep in the temporal lobes.
Information about all sensations comes to the frontal lobes. Here its total analysis
takes place and a holistic view of the image is created. Therefore, this area of the cortex
is called associative, it is with it that the ability to learn is associated. If the frontal
cortex is destroyed, then there are no associations between the type of object and its
name, between the image of the letter and the sound that it stands for. Learning becomes
