before any long journeys or in adverse weather.
Accidents
If you are involved in a vehicle incident, please contact AA Accident Management on the SAMEDAY as the
incident on 0800 917 2712. Alternatively, you can report it on the HSS Incident Reporting App.
All company vehicles should have a Vehicle Incident Log in the cab, to be used to exchange insurance
details. If your vehicle doesn’t have one, speak to your line manager to see if the depot has any spares. If
not, contact the Fleet Department on 0161 888 4872 or fleetadmin@hss.com
Parking Tickets, PCNs and ANPR (Auto Number Plate Recognition)
ANPR technology is now commonplace on the roads in UK and Ireland. It has caused a sharp increase in the
amount of road charging (Dart Charge, Runcorn Bridge, and Central London) and greatly increased the risk
of incurring speeding, parking and other road offences.
Therefore all drivers have to be more cautious about how they drive and where the vehicle is parked.
• If using a toll road/bridge/zone, never assume your vehicle is registered unless you have had
confirmation from the Fleet Department. If you are unsure, please contact Fleet on 0161 888 4872
or fleetadmin@hss.com to check. This especially applies to hire vehicles
• Be cautious when entering supermarkets or industrial estates if they have signs stating the
maximum number of hours you can park there. There may be private parking firm enforcing these
restrictions using ANPR.
Record Keeping
If you have a company car or van allocated to your name, you are advised to keep a record of the times
and dates that any other employees use the vehicle. This information can be used in the event of vehicle
incidents, speeding or parking offences
If a vehicle is part of a fleet and not specifically allocated to a certain employee, the line manager
responsible for that vehicle should keep a record of who has used it and when
Returning Your Company Car
If you return a company car for any reason, you should return it in a reasonable condition. This is fully
detailed in the Company Car Policy but includes removing all rubbish from the car and ensuring the seats
and floors are fully hoovered. The company reserves the right to charge any employees for valets if the
vehicle is not returned in acceptable condition
