Company Car Drivers Bulletin 2022 – Edition One
The purpose of these bulletins is to pass on key messages, as well as being a source of useful information for company car drivers.
Supply of New Cars The announcements that the availability of new cars is going to get worse, has meant a
hectic start to the year for the Fleet team. We have had to review the current list and remove/replace any
cars that are not going to be available. Some popular models such as the BMW 330e, Mercedes A Class
Saloon-e and the Skoda Superb Estate are going to be unavailable or difficult to source this year.
On a positive note, we have now finalised a list of available cars and we have restarted ordering If your car
is due, you will be contacted and asked for your first and second choice of cars, as it is likely some models
will become unavailable at short notice.
We are treating this as an opportunity to encourage colleagues to go electric, where their job role and
circumstances allow, and are developing some exciting initiatives to help colleagues adapt to EV ownership.

Driving Licence Checks A reminder that all HSS colleagues who drive company vehicles need to complete a driving licence
mandate so we can check their ongoing entitlement to drive. This applies to spouses and partners who are permitted to use
the cars as well. Please email fleetadmin@hss.com if you have not completed one and we will send you a link to the Licence
Bureau, who are our approved supplier.
Eyesight Checks The Highway Code is very clear on the minimum eyesight requirements to drive a car, you must be able to
read a number plate from 20 metres away. It is important that all drivers test their eyesight on a regular basis, preferably
with an optician. As part of our responsibility to manage road risk, we will be asking company car drivers to either show
proof of an recent eyesight test in the last 12 months or arrange for them to take an internal eyesight test, that we
currently use for the frontline commercial vehicle drivers
Company Car Inspections The Fleet team, or one of our approved suppliers, inspect every car that is returned to us, by either colleagues
leaving the business or changing cars. Unfortunately there are still too many examples of unreported damage and dirty interiors. Therefore
we are introducing a new 6 monthly check for all company cars where the colleague will be sent a link to the PreDrive vehicle check app and
will be required to answer a few questions and provide images
Highway Code Updates Please be aware that some major changes to the Highway Codes come into effect soon. They are designed to
improve the safety of vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians. When passing one of these on a road, you will
need to have a minimum of 2 metres gap between your car and them. If you are turning at a junction, you will also need to give way to
pedestrians waiting the cross the road you are turning into or emerging from. For more information, please use your preferred search
engine to lookup “Highway Code Update 2022”.
