In March, the Carrollton Junior High celebrated Science
Week which was all dedicated to environmental issues.
Mike Arechabala, president of NextEra, Spain and the
brother of Primary director Paola Cons.uegra, as well as
Dr. Alberto Varela, a professor at St. Thomas University
and husband of Science 7 teacher, Marlen Nunez cle
Varela, spoke to the Junior High students about alternative
energy. Dr. Varela demonstrated the use of solar energy to
produce hydrogen and the benefits of solar ovens.
In addition, during Earth Day, the Ecology Club sponsored
a "Green Fair." Eight different stations were set up to
demonstrate the many "green" alternatives to our way
of life, from cleaners and recycled jewelry to book
exchanges. In the photo', .Mrs. Nunez de Varela hands out

In a very competitive field of 10 schools, Carrollton Junior High won overall first place in the Belen Spanish Invitational, with 12
