The Positives of Coaching
PARTS 1 & 2: The child sharing their own perspective and needs:
▪ Child practises the skills of communicating needs, improving self-awareness and
understanding of self. This in turn improves ability to predict problems and
Prep4Best.
▪ Feeling listened to is an important People Around Me need and helps the child to
feel valued, significant and cared for.
PART 3: The child listening to the concerns of others:
▪ Child practises thinking about the needs of others.
▪ Child becomes more aware of the impact of their actions on others.
▪ This improves the skills of empathy and social cognition.
PART 4: Solving the Problem
▪ Child experiences decision-making. This improves the important
▪ World Around Me need of feeling in control of what is happening to oneself.
▪ Child practises the skill of generating solutions to problems – something which
improves Flexible Thinking.
