Mr. & Mrs. Jacobs, veteran retailers, opened the shop in January, 1969 and have rapidly developed a regular clientele of nearby business people and local residents seeking attractive, quality clothing th a t%u2019s fashionable but not %u2018trendy.%u2019 Mr. and Mrs. %u2018J,%u2019 as long time customers refer to them, opened Casual Hutch Ltd. after a brief try at retirement in Atlanta. Brooklyn residents, the Jacobs operated a successful women's sportswear shop in Bay Ridge for 25 years before giving it up to give Georgia a try. Businessand Brooklyn were in their blood, however, and, after just 7 months, the Jacobs were back with a new shop for grateful old friends and customers.Mrs. %u2018J%u2019 does the buying for Casual Hutch, paying weekly visits to the various fashion houses in the City to seek out the classic, well made designs that have become the store%u2019s trademark. Early on, in Casual Hutch%u2019s history, she realized that her clientele included not only mature, traditionally-oriented women but also younger women interested in better clothing but with a youthful aspect. Mrs. %u2018J%u2019 canvassed the %u2018young houses%u2019 and brought in several lines. The most popular have become regulars - Crazy Horse and Youth Guild, in particular.The man behind the scenes at Casual Hutch%u2019s warm hued wooded and carpeted interior is Mr. Jacogs who handles the accounting and administrative details in the business' operation. Mr. %u2018J%u2019s%u2019 family had been in the clothing business so his know-how comes from first hand exposure and experience over many years.Everyday wear is Casual Hutch%u2019s primary focus. A wide assortment of skirts, sweaters, slacks, suits, dresses and coats are on hand as well as all manner of accessories- handbags, scarves, gloves, jewelry, bodysuits and hosiery.
