W o m e n W i t h F r e e W o r k s h o p S e r i e s%u201cSalute To Brooklyn Womanhood,%u201d a series of workshops featuring Brooklyn women of accomplishment in six vital areas, will highlight the Brooklyn YWCA%u2019s 1974 Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, April 20. Both members and nonmembers of the YW are invited to attend this exciting, free program.Three one-hour workshops are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. %u201cWomen in Art%u201d will involve panelists Judith Vivell, an artist currently working in silk screening whose work hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Mar ilia Arguelles of Ft. Greene, craftswoman who has taught at Brooklyn College and the YWCA and Onnie Millar, who works both in fine arts and in crafts and has conducted workshops for school teachers and children through BACA. Charlene Victor, executive director of the Brooklyn Arts &Cultural Assn., will moderate. The discussion will center on %u201cDoes Women%u2019s Lib influence current trends in art?%u201d%u201cWomen in Politics%u201d will feature panelists Mary Pinkett, Brooklyn Councilwoman; Jean McKee, Administrative Assistant to Senator Javits, and Heights South Brooklyn State Senator Carol Bellamy. This workshop will speak to the question, %u201cHow and Why do women belong in politics?%u201d Moderator will be Jenny Lowenstein of Ft. Greene.%u201cWomen in Business%u201d will center on discussion of %u201cHow do you make it in a man%u2019s world?%u201d and will feature panelists Evelyn Cruse, Manager of Public Affairs for Con Edison in Brooklyn, Cynthia Herbert of Brooklyn Heights, owner of the non-sexist children%u2019s bookstore, Child%u2019s Play, and June Taylor, proprietor of the Unisex Personnel Agency. Camilla Flemming of Brooklyn Heights, chairperson of the National YWCA Public Policy Committee and Brooklyn YWCA vice president, will moderate.A workshop on %u201cYouth Action%u201d will stress that %u201cyou don%u2019t have to be 30 to make your mark!%u201d Panelists will be Sharon Katz and Leah Newman of the Student Coalition for Relevant Sex Education, a group of high school students who made up their own proposal for a sex education program, received a grant from the Ford Foundation, and acceptance from the New York City Board of Education. AlmiraCoursey, Special Assistant for the Education of the Disadvantaged, Board of Higher Education, CUNY, who is involved with SEEK and similar programs, will complete the panel. Tory Jenks, a Packer Collegiate Institute student who directs the YW after-school tutoring program, will serve as moderator.The workshop on %u201cMedia%u201d will devote itself to the question, %u201cIs the media the message?%u201d and willfeature panelists Florence Adams of Cobble Hill, author of %u201cI Took A Hammer in My Hand%u201d and several other books, Roseann Scarmadella, of Carroll Gardens and Channel 7%u2019s Eye Witness News, and Bonnie Goldsamt, Editor and Publisher of the newborn monthly, The Fort Greene Paper. Thelma Black, Asst. Librarian %u2014 Borough Park Branch, and a Brooklyn YWCA vice president, will moderate.Anyone interested in attending on the 20th is invited to bring a sandwich at noon (coffee and cake will be served) or to come after lunch at 12:30 to attend the Annual Meeting business or tour the eleven story YW building.
