Boerum Hill is presently served by the 76th, 84th and 78th precincts. The five executive officers of the Association were reelected at the meeting. These included Dennis Holt, President; Tom Butson, Vice President; Nick Wilder, Treasurer; Howard Lewis, Recording Secretary; and Heloise G runeberg, Corresponding Secretary. In addition, three new Members at Large were elected to serve on the Board. They are Bob Sachs, Charlann Shakeley, and David Ransey. These eight officials, along with five to be appointed by the Board, make up the Executive Committee which governs Association affairs. The second part of the meetingconcerned the application the association prepared last summer requesting a redistricting of precinct lines so the neighborhood would be served by one, rather than three, precincts. %u201cThere is no other recognized neighborhood in this area which is so divided,%u201d reported President Dennis Holt, %u201c We felt that police communications and efficiency would be in this way improved, and the community better served.%u201d Holt said that die community drive for precinct redistricting was precipitated by last summer%u2019s crime wave, when %u201cBoerum Hill was literally ravaged with burglaries, and nobody was ever apprehended.%u201dLast July 300 Boerum Hill residents, most of whom had suffered burglaries, met to take action about the situation. It was then decided to fight for single precinct coverage. At Councilman Richmond%u2019s behest, former NYPD Commissioner Calley promised an investigation and full report would be made.Visit thePromenadeRestaurantfor steaks, chops, seafood, soda fountain.Home-style Cooking is our specialty.W ith o u r e x p a n d e d fa c ilitie s, w e h a ve a d d e d a s e rv ic e b a rs e r v in g c o c k ta ils, w in e s, a n d liq u o r s .\\84 M ontague St., ( Corner of Hicks ) Open til 2 a.m. 522-7433R ichardGaffneyDrawingsW e s t b r o a d w a y431 W est Broadw ayA p r i l 1 3 - M a y 2Opening April 13thT u e s . - S a t . 1 1 - 5966-2520Four police officials were on hand at Thursday%u2019s meeting to discuss the report on the application and crime control in the neighborhood. Jules Sachon, the Commanding Officer of Brooklyn South Division, was on hand as the official representative of NYPD Commissioner Michael Codd. Also present were Inspector Adam Butcher, Brooklyn South; Captain William Tracy, 84th Precinct; and Captain George Peters, the newly selected commanding officer of the 76th.Inspector Butcher gave the report outlining the department%u2019s decision to deny the Association%u2019s petition. Butcher cited a variety of organizational reasons why the present precinct lines should be preserved. He said changing precinct lines is a comples affair, and wouldn%u2019t necessarily improve the crime protection picture for the Boerum Hill neighborhood. He also mentioned that Atlantic Avenue which divides the length of the Boerum Hill community, is a natural precinct boundary line, since such main throughfares constitute barriers for answering radio calls. Thirdly, he said that such community %u201cmain streets%u201d deserve double coverage, which is the effect along precinct boundaries. When later contacted by the Phoenix, Inspector Butcher commented that he saw the %u201creal issue%u201d as being %u201cthe community%u2019sContinued on Page 18(7?U/ COSpanish Restaurant121 Atlantic Ave.625-8539Authentic CuisineFrom SpainNew York Telephone Company%u2019s Mary Jane Drew shows off new directory that is now being deliver ad to Brooklyn telephone users.
