For info, 499-2293.C ham ber O rchestra O pens W ith A P rem iereThe Haydn-Mozart Chamber Orchestra will open its 1986-87 season with a world premiere of John Becker%u2019s Soundpiece No. 2-B, %u201cHomage to Haydn,%u201d as well as works by Haydn and Mozart, on October 25, at 8pm. Becker, a member of the so-called %u201cAmerican Five,%u201d that included Charles Ives and Henry Cowell, has fallen into nearly total obscurity since his death.The program will open with guest pianist Alexander Peskanov, performing Mozart%u2019s Piano Concert No. 9, one of his most forward-looking, if not revolutionary, works. Peskanov, since emigrating from the Soviet Union in 1973, has been gamering the highest praise as one of the finest keyboard artists of his generation. The concert will also include performances of the original version of Haydn%u2019s Symphony No. 70 of 1779 and Mozart%u2019s Adagio and Fugue for String Orchestra.The Orchestra will perform in the recently-renovated Cathedral Pavilion, at Jay and Tillary Sts. Tickets are $8; $4 for students and seniors; and $20 for asubscription to the three season concerts.
