But gram m ar school reunions are uncharted territory for the memory. Most people can%u2019t recall whose pigtails were dipped in the inkwell, or whose desk they put the frog in. But the Woodward Park School elementary school reunion did spark those memories as nearly all the students who graduated from the eighth grade 25 years ago returned to celebrate their silver anniversary.Dr. Richard Plotz, now a pathologist, but also a member of the class of 1962, says the idea is not that far-fetched. %u201cYou%u2019d have to know Woodward,%u201d he says. In total, he was able to reach six of the group%u2019s former teachers, and all but three of the class members. The classmates came to the reunion for a variety of reasons. Barbara Mautner, a psychotherapist from New York City summed 14) the feelings of most of the participants: %u201cWoodward was my third parent.%u201dAlthough many of the participants have stayed close to the Brooklyn school, distance did not keep anyone away. Joady Guthrie, a singer who carries on the tradition of his famous family, travelled from San Francisco, while Ann Greenstein, one of the teachers, and David Elkus, a fishing boat captain, began their journeys in Florida. Carol Jones Peterson, who became a clinical social worker, arrived from Michigan.Group teachers Seemah Unterman and Claire Obelsby came from Vermont. %u201cOpening up teacher participation in the decisions was something I brought from Woodward to my work as an administrator in Vermont%u2019s schools,%u201d said Seemah. %u201cBut Claire really had an impact (H i the state through her work in one-room schools.%u201dGertrude Goldstein, who directed the Woodward School in 1962, and now heads the Woodward Park School in its location at 50 Prospect Park West, was on hand to greet the returning alumni. %u201cIt%u2019s a moving experience to be part of the renewal of such fond memories,%u201d she says. %u201cAnd somehow you can recognize the child in the adults %u2014 no matter how successful and sophisticated they may be.%u201dLEVOLORVERTICALBLINDS50%OFFiyomxgtrakraftIn Park Slope 145 7th Ave. Bklyn.
