Deputy Inspector Tony Christo and Captain Jack Gaughran had just stopped by to see how a Park runners%u2019 event was going, and were just about to leave for the Norwegian Day Parade in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.Despite their characteristically busy schedule, they took a few moments to review the Auxiliaries%u2019 recent accomplishments. %u201cWe have 300 officers from 13 precincts who patrol in Prospect Park,%u201d noted Christo, %u201cand in the last two years we logged 22,500 hours on duty. Together with the regular police we%u2019ve had a lot of positive impact in this Park.%u201dThe continuing decline of crime in the Park supports this claim. Along with the Park Enforcement Patrol, the police have succeeded in creating a high-profile image that results in a very important thing, safety. Whether they%u2019ve covering a multithousand-person event or present on their normal weekday beat, they underline the fact that Prospect Park is a place that all people can feel free to enjoy.Christo, who is moving on io a newassignment, hopes that even more concerned New Yorkers will join the Auxiliary force. As you might suspect, the exhibition has a distinctly meteorological flavor; its theme is the sky and its various moods.
