7 › Butternut Squash
A type of winter squash with a sweet, nutty taste.
Eggplants, squash, and zucchinis: Sun-Loving Garden Staples
It has tan-yellow skin, orange fleshy pulp with
a compartment of seeds in the blossom end.
A single vine can produce 10 to 20 squashes.
Create a ‘hill’ for each plant which allows the soil
to heat around the seeds and roots. Plenty
of space required!
› Spaghetti Squash
Easy to grow. And with its stringy flesh, a great
pasta substitute! This winter squash can be grown
both on the ground and vertically. You can
grow spaghetti squash in containers as long
as they’re big enough.
› ’Easy Pick Gold’ Zucchini
Easy picking is right! Stems are spineless,
so no prickles. Glossy, deep-yellow fruit. Zucchini
is a summer squash with a grassy, earthy taste, great
for eating raw, steamed, grilled or stir-fried. Plants
have a bush-like habit, can be grown in containers.
› ’Easy Pick Green’ Zucchini
The open, bush-like habit makes it easy to spot
and reach the zucchinis. No prickles! Adapted
for both garden and container-growing. Tasty,
versatile, deep green fruit and one of the best
zucchinis for eating fresh.
› ’Sunny Delight’ Zucchini Squash
A scallop-type summer squash. Butter-yellow fruits
that mature earlier and hold their shape longer
than other varieties. Can be eaten as a baby
vegetable or fully mature. Semi-bush plant.
