The Importance of Providing Information, Education, and Food

Infiltrating North Korea with true and helpful information
to disabuse the people from the pervasive propaganda there
remains an important means of winning hearts and minds.
The Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Bureau of the
State Department, I am told, has recently been deploying
the ten million dollars allocated towards that end. This is a
positive development after years of not doing so.

Flash drives, laptops, cell phones, and every other
technological means should be employed to penetrate the
attempted monopoly on information that the government
wields. The range of genres that have made a positive
difference in North Korea include movies, soap operas, songs,
sermons, information about the world outside North Korea,
speeches, interviews, and more. Short wave radio, regular
radio broadcasts (such as those by Far East Broadcasting
Company (FEBC - Christian radio broadcaster), Free
North Korea Radio, and Radio Free Asia, print, bottles with
messages, grain, and money, and smart balloons —there is
a continuous and growing array of ways that these messages
have made and continue to make their way into North Korea.

how their approach will eventually succeed in providing
information to North Koreans:
