Reactions of pyrrole:
1. Electrophilic substitution reactions:
The pyrroyl potassium as an example of N-metallated pyrroles (Li, Na, Mg ...)
has a great synthetic value. It reacts with CO 2 and with chloroform as do phenols
in the Kolbe and Reimer-Tiemann reactions to form pyrrole carboxylic acids
and pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde, respectively (in the latter case some 3-
chloropyridine is also formed by ring expansion).
