The Ministry of Economy (MoEc) took part in the 122nd session of the United Nations World Tourism
Organisation (UNWTO) Executive Council held in Colombia. Badreya Al Maidoor, Assistant Under-
Secretary for Support Services at MoEc, led the delegation. The meeting focused on enhancing
cooperation among member states to improve tourism sustainability both regionally and globally.
Al Maidoor highlighted the UAE's ongoing commitment to global efforts aimed at sustainable
tourism development. She stressed the importance of sharing best practices and policies,
especially given current climate and environmental challenges. Emphasising sustainable solutions,
innovation, and technology is crucial for preserving heritage sites and unique destinations.
During her address, Al Maidoor stated, "The UAE continues to work, in cooperation with the
UNWTO, on the ‘Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism’ in line with its
vision to enhance the national tourism sector’s sustainability." This initiative aims to create an
appealing national tourism environment by offering excellent services and developing modern
infrastructure.
The framework seeks to improve data collection using advanced technology, ensuring more
efficient and accurate tourism statistics. Al Maidoor noted that global tourism is witnessing a strong
recovery this year, with the Middle East showing positive growth across various sectors. This
