The Keto Diet

            What is it?

The Keto Diet can be defined as a low carb/high fat diet, where the
body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy.

But a low carb/high fat diet can be really hard to translate into
everyday foods. An example of how this would translate into
            percentages would be:

                        5% Carbs

                  25% Protein 70% Fat

            20% Protein + 5% Carbs + 75% Fats

The Ketogenic diet requires very little carbs, lower protein intake, and
the majority of your foods coming from fat sources. On this diet you
would be shooting for near-zero carbs in a day, most estimates end
up being ~10-15g of carbs per day (that’s about a handful or two of
            berries, respectively).

            Why is it used?

Ketosis is a natural process the body initiates to help us survive when
food intake is low. During this state, we produce ketones, which are
produced from the breakdown of fats in the liver. The end goal of a
properly maintained keto diet is to force your body into this metabolic
state. This is not done through starvation of calories but reduction of
            carbohydrates.

When the body is overloaded with fats and carbohydrates are taken
away, it will be- gin to burn ketones as the primary energy source.
