Compass Star Medallion. Estimated 1950s. Sold as Amish. eBay purchase. 54½"x55½" Fabric: Heavy cottons,
like chambray. Batting: Medium thickness. From its weight, probably cotton. Backing: Red cotton. Edge:
Narrow border ½" on each side matches the back fabric. Piecing: By machine. Quilting: In a diamond-
shaped grid done with blue thread, except in the center star. The quilting in the center follows the edges of
the pieces. Quilting is 5-6 stitches per inch. Condition: Very good. The lavender pieces show slight fading
from rubbing at their seams, typical of heavy cottons in strong colors, that shows that the piece has been
washed at least once. Comment: To my mind it is missing some of the indications of being Amish.
