Carpenter’s Wheel 1950s. Purchased at Everett, WA in 1998. 66½"x81" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Medium
weight cotton. Backing: Cotton print, light lime green with red figures of strawberries, flowers, cherries
in dark green 1" frames. Edge: The back is brought to the front ½" and top-stitched by machine. Piecing:
By machine. Quilting: By hand, clamshell pattern, 3 stitches to the inch. Condition: Very good. There are
the beginnings of light tanning in some white areas. Comment: Many patches have wrinkles as though
they were not taut in a quilting frame when the quilting was done. I recognize a print like one my mother
purchased to make curtains. The quilt came with a note pinned to it that it was made in Lyndon, WA,
which is a little Dutch community in Skagit County or even farther north. It was (and might be) the last
“dry” city in WA.
