Princess Feather Sold as "Vintage". I’d guess no later than 1940 based on the choice of muslin instead of a
percale sheet for the back. The good condition of the red indicates that it’s later than "Turkey red" used in
Victorian times. eBay purchase in about 2010 from Pennsylvania vendor GB-Best (Donna Vitale.) 77"x 83"
Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Medium weight cotton. Backing: Cotton muslin. Edge: 3 /8" red tape machined to the
front and caught by hand in back. Piecing: Appliqués are by hand laid on on the field–there are no blocks.
Quilting: By hand in a diamond grid 1" on the side, five stitches per inch, across the white field. Within
the red motifs, quilting is a series of circles 1½" in diameter. Condition: Very good, close to excellent. I do
see one small age freckle on the front. Comment: There is a risk that the red would run if the quilt were
laundered, since "Turkey red" was unfading, but tended to show wear on the surface. Other reds ran.
