Hawaiian or Snowflake Cutout 1928. Purchased at an Auburn, WA antique store in late 1980s. 76"x77" Fabric:
Cotton. Batting: Low loft cotton. Backing: White cotton. Edge: Blue tape 3/8" to each side by hand. Piecing:
By hand. Quilting: By hand in diagonal lines across the face of the quilt. Condition: Very good. Back has
4" round brown stains; front has brown stain near edge. Comment: The pattern resembles "Lily," found in
"Hawaiian Quilts" by Stella M. Jones, 1989 revision of 1930 text done by the Daughters of Hawaii, Honolulu
Academy of Arts and Mission House Museum. However, the quilting is not at all Hawaiian style. This
quilt was said to have won a blue ribbon at the 1928 Nebraska State Fair.
