Trapunto Leaves and Trees Guess: 1860-1890. All the "leaf" motifs described in Haders, The Main Street Pocket
Guide to Quilts date from that range, and the green appears to be mineral dye from that era. Purchased in
Bellevue, WA prior to 2003. 78"x89" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Light cotton except motifs are heavily stuffed
trapunto. Backing: White cotton. Edge: Tape ¼" on each side, by hand on back. Piecing: Appliqué is by
hand. Quilting: By hand, in rows ¼" apart, except going around the motifs. Stitching so fine it is difficult
to count but appears to be about 9 stitches to the inch. Condition: Very good. Upon close examination, the
green shows some streaks of yellow. There is one pale yellow stain near the trunk of a tree. Fabric is firm.
Comment: All the motifs are heavily stuffed trapunto work. Old trapunto quilts are rare.

Figure 250: Trapunto Leaves and Trees
