Appliqued Sampler in Red and Green with Flowering Signed in white embroidery and dated 1914. eBay pur-
chase. 81"x82" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: None; a summer quilt. Backing: Muslin. Edge: The back is brought to
the front 3 /8" and caught by hand. Piecing: Appliques by hand, blocks joined by machine. Quilting: In the
vine border only, in diagonal lines 1" apart, 9 stitches to the inch. The quilting is so tiny and flat that it is
nearly invisible. Condition: Good. The greens are a classical fugitive green, fading to tan. Comment: Nearly
Baltimore Album type. Several blocks are signed in white embroidery with the maker’s name, and two
mention the maker’s age. One is 74 and another is 82. The corner is signed in the same white embroidery
"Owned by Grace Carroll McNeill".
