A $2,500 Academic Scholarship and a $1,500 Technical Scholarship are awarded to a deserving Teen in each Ar-
ea of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. annually. In addition, one $7,500 Grand Scholarship is awarded.

Criteria for the Evaluation of Performing Arts Award
The TTA Performing Arts Award is a project promoted by the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. for Teens who
are active in their local chapters.

Purpose
The Performing Arts Competition encourages an appreciation for a discipline of study. It affirms the various
techniques for specialized art forms, and it preserves culture and its forms of expression. The Performing Arts
Award will allow teens to develop skills and build confidence when performing in front of an audience.

Guidelines
Acts will be allotted no more than FIVE (5) MINUTES to perform.
NO profanity or vulgar lyrics in any vocal performance or dance music.
NO nudity allowed! Keep attire at a respectable and tasteful level.
NO alcohol, tobacco, or drug advertisements are to be shown on any clothing.
NO pyrotechnics, open flames or any other dangerous additions.

Category: Dance
The dance form must be ballet, modern, jazz, tap, or ethnic and it must be identified to the judge before the
presentation. The performance must be a solo and not exceed five minutes. The dancer must provide their mu-
sic. Costumes are recommended.

Category: Dramatics
Prose selections must not exceed five minutes, including a memorized introduction. The selection may be from
a published or non-published novel, short story, essay, journal, biography, letter, editorial or autobiography.
Plays, speeches, monologues or poetry materials are encouraged. Movement is acceptable and encouraged.

Category: Poetry
Interpretations must not exceed five minutes, including a memorized introduction. The selection must be a pub-
lished or non-published poem or a collection of poems organized around a central theme.

Category: Humorous or Dramatic
Interpretation must not exceed five minutes, including memorized introduction. The selection must be from a
published play, novel or short story. Movement is acceptable and encouraged. Props and costumes may be
used. Selections may be light or humorous in nature or serious. Selections must be memorized.

Category: Music
The musical performance may be either vocal or instrumental. It must be a solo performance not to exceed five
minutes. The selections may be classical, contemporary, spiritual, jazz, pop, trendy, country, reggae or tradition-
al. If music is needed, the soloist must provide music or be responsible for their own musicians.

Judges will use the following ratings:
Teens will be rated according to their individual performance.
Ratings of Superior (15 – 11pts)
Good (10 – 6 pts) and
Fair (5 – 0 pts)
