The Chapter participated in the BEAT AIDS 5K Walk/Run Put Pep in Your Step, on
February 4, 2017. The event is to raise Aids and HIV awareness.
The event included
door prizes, music and free food.
River City Chapter made a monetary donation to
BEAT AIDS. River City Chapter held their Sickle Cell Disease walk October 8, 2016. The
chapter partnered with the Sickle Cell Association of Texas. $100.00 was donated to
SCD Foundation. River City collected Toys and household items for Sickle Cell Disease.
The toys will were donated to the Marc Thomas Foundation in Austin, Texas.
River City Chapter held their 3rd Literacy Café on April 8, 2016, at Second Baptist
Church, in San Antonio Texas. Their theme was “Weaving Words with Wisdom” The
Power of Storytelling! The night was filled with storytelling, poetry, singing and dance.
Each attendee was asked to bring a book to donate to Sinclair Elementary. The chapter
River collected books from October 2016- April 2017 and distributed books and
magazines to a local San Antonio salon, barbershop, the Westover Hills Rehabilitation
Home and one of our community partners, the Tree Mount Temple Church youth
program. We collected more than 200 books were delivered April 26, 2017.
River City presented their “Back to Work” program at Midcrown Pavilion from 2015 to
present. On March 22, 2017 the River City Chapter delivered 100 Blouse and Shirts, 75
Pairs of Ladies, 35 Ladies Suits, and 25 pairs of shoes, several belts, accessories and
purses to Dress for Success. This effort enabled many women in our community get
prepared to reenter or enter the workforce. River City Chapter adopted Midcrown
Pavilion Senior Community. Once a month from September through June, River City
Chapter present on various topics such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, elderly
abuse, dealing with depression, breast cancer and other topics. We acknowledged
special days and provided social activities.
As part of their Community Beautification program, water bottles were collected and
donated by the River City Chapter and our partners at the Midcrown Pavilion. August 6,
2016, River City Chapter visited Great Northwest Recycling center and recycled an
enormous number of water bottles, weighing in at 378 lbs. February 4, 2017, River City
Chapter cleaned their adopted spot. On the evening of Friday, August 5, 2016, River City
Chapter, partnered with Tree Mount Temple Church in the presentation of a College
and Community Organization Fair. The chapter also has partner with Tree Mount
Temple Church for UNCF Sunday on March 26, 2017. We raised a total of $620.00
during the UNCF Faith Initiative
February 27, 2016, River City partnered with the 100 Black Men at the Economic
Empowerment Summit. Program participants included Ivy Taylor, Mayor of San
Antonio. Workshops consisted of Scholarship funded education, STEM Careers,
Entrepreneurship. Moreover, the 100 Black Men presented scholarships to nine (9) of
our Young Ladies of Distinction during our Annual Luncheon on November 14, 2016.
The Chapter partnered with the United States Army in a joint effort to promote a
Women’s Program. on November 17, 2016., titled “This is what Extraordinary Looks
Like”. The U.S Army allocated a monetary donation for River City for successfully
promoting awareness of Military Women in their community.
River City Chapter launched their “Ambassadors of the Evers Academy for African-
American Males” (A-TEAAM) on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at S. J. Davis Middle
School located on the east side of San Antonio, Texas.
