San Antonio River City Chapter ushered in the 2015 – 2016 year with
Enthusiasm, Excitement and Energy!
On Saturday, September 19,
2015 River City Chapter joined
the Praise in Purple Alzheimer
Walk. River City walked in the
memory of the late Lord Curtis
Michael and others that have
had their lives changed by the
Alzheimer’s disease.
In the month of December,
they presented their partners
at the Midcrown Pavilion with
sweaters, blankets, scarves
and other items for our keep a
senior warm program.
River City partnered with the
Historically Black Eastview
Cemetery in July, August, and
September 2015, cutting grass
and helping to clean the
Cemetery.
The NCNW, San Antonio Ruth
Jones McClendon Section,
along with River City Chapter
hosted the 3rd Annual Red
Shoe HIV/AIDS Awareness
Dinner and raise funds to
support BEATAIDS and San Antonio Aids Foundation (SAAF). On Saturday, September 12,
2015, River City attended the 13th Annual Alamo City Cancer Council Breast Cancer
Update Conference presented by Methodist Healthcare Cancer Network. They visited
Midcrown Pavilion once a month and presented their back-to-work Program. They also
attended the Annual Sickle Cell Anemia Christmas Pajama Party at New Creation
Fellowship Church and presented a bag of stuffed animals, toys and games. Friday
October 23, 2015 River City Chapter partnered with Sinclair Elementary School, to
support the schools Family Literacy Night. There were 320 children in attendance,
making the event a huge Success! River City read to groups of children and
distributed books for the children to have as take a-ways from the event. River City
Chapter joined with Midcrown Pavilion in effort to recycle plastic water bottles as part of
their effort to help keep recycle items out of the waste sites. On February 27, 2016, River
City held a Voter Registration and NAACP membership drive. Membership applications
were distributed and they registered 6 applicants. River City Chapter hosted their Annual
Luncheon, November 14, 2015. The scholarship recipients were awarded $500 each.
