Suburban Bayou City Top Ladies of Suburban Bayou City Chapter participated in the
Chapter annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway for Senior Citizens with
Lady/U S Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18th
Community Congressional District.
Beautification and
Status of Women The Ladies assisted volunteers at Jacinto City Heritage Hall Seniors
Center by unpacking and distributing frozen turkeys to the seniors of
the community. They were so appreciative and looked forward to the
annual occasion which includes lunch.

Many of the seniors present were Veterans and were recognized for
their valuable service to this nation. We were delighted to be a part
of such a heart-warming event in our community.

Suburban Bayou City Chapter Ladies and Teens participated in the
Annual Sister's Network 5k Breast Cancer Walk held each April
in Houston. The Top Ladies walked and the Top Teens volunteered
at the water stations.

The opening ceremony was very inspiring. We were enlightened and
encouraged by Mrs. Karen Jackson, Sisters Network Founder; and
energized with warm-up line dances by Houston Mayor Sylvester
Turner and Candy Eastman, Survivor/Majic 102.1 FM.

The walk left us enthusiastic to continue our efforts of Breast Cancer
Awareness (Status of Women); and to further support our
community partnership with Sister's Network.

Community Beautification and Status of Women
Harris County Commissioner Gene Locke held groundbreaking
ceremony for a new community center honoring Late Top Lady/U S
Representative Barbara C. Jordan.

Barbara Jordan, an unforgettable force not only in Civil Rights for
African Americans, but also a hero to women and Americans with
disabilities. This park was dedicated in her memory and named the
Barbara Jordan Park.

The new building will cost $4.1 million and will be open to the
public with a 250 capacity meeting space and a state-of-the-art
kitchen. Construction started in January 2017 and expected
completion is in October 2017.

Assisting in the groundbreaking was her sister, Lady Rosemary
Jordan McGowan (Houston Chapter), along with Top Ladies of
Distinction, Inc., Anna Kirksey, Kim Tops (Houston Chapter); and
Bessie Fletcher (Suburban Bayou City Chapter).
