86. Mothers and fathers prepared us for life. I remember my mother telling
us if you get locked up, you will rot there. WE never went to jail.
87. Young people today speed for fun. Get a traffic ticket. Won’t pay it and
will go to jail and sit it out or the parents will bail them out.
88. I had a night mare one night. I dreamed I was in jail. I heard my mother
talking loud to the police. “Where is she?” I kept hollering to the officer,
“NO, don’t let her get me. They let her in and she pulled the bars apart
and beat me in front of them.” I never went to jail. My brothers never
went to jail.
89. It is 2010. WE go to college to party and get away from home. We went
to college to get an education so that we could work and get away from
home.
90. But I believe, there is hope. Our African American children who are
descendants of the Negro-Afro-American-Black Parents must gain a
sense of direction and a sense of responsibility. They must master
common sense and go forward with grace and dignity.
91. The worlds awaits our talented young ladies and young men. The world
has high expectations for their work ethic and their ability to work
together to solve problems.
92. I hope you heard me say work together. The big corporations and
schools want intelligent minds. But these intelligent minds must know
how to collaborate with others to make a difference.
93. So, let’s teach our youth that it is not about them. It is team es sprit de
corp.
94. Let’s teach them how to culturally switch. Teach them what is
appropriate for each situation in life. You change according to the
environment you must function successfully in.
95. Top Teens of America, be tops in academic achievement. Tops in
intellectual development. Tops in character. Tops in positive self-
concept. Tops in honoring your father and your mother. Tops in
community service. Tops in dressing for success. Tops in Christian
character. When I was a child, I spake as a child. I understood as a child.
I thought as a child. But, now that I have become a man, a woman; I put
away childish things.
96. Your mind is your only obstacle.
