Status of Women continued to focus on job readiness/preparedness with the “Back to Work” Program. The
program focuses on enhancing the skillset of women in the workplace who may have been downsized or
forced to return to work by providing a curriculum which includes: Resume writing, Self-Esteem,
Networking, Mock Interviews, Dressing for Success, Soft Skills Training, etc. An additional component was
added to focus on entrepreneurship for those who wanted to start their own businesses.
Senior Citizens continued to carry the “We Care” mantle in the nursing homes, senior residence centers and
communities we serve through partnerships with AARP, Black Women’s Agenda and the Balm in Gilead that
focused on caregiving, clinical trials and healthy living in addition to our more traditional programs of
enhancing the lives of senior citizens allowing them to live their golden years with dignity.
Community Beautification through its “America the Beautiful” Program officially partnered with Keep
America Beautiful and joined them in the Great American Cleanup. A Top Teen from Area III was appointed
to the National KAB Youth Council and Area II received a donation of land to be developed into a community
garden. We continued with our traditional programs of graffiti removal, recycling, community gardens,
Adopt a Highway, African American Cemetery Clean-Up, block clubs and neighborhood watch.
Community Partnerships through its “Joining Forces” focused on collaborations. Bayway Lincoln in Houston,
TX collaborated with TLOD on many initiatives by sponsoring a raffle give away whereby TLOD chapters sold
the raffle tickets and were able to keep the money for chapter operations. All raffle prizes were donated.
Bayway Lincoln donated many plasma screen TVs during the 2015-2017 program period and also offset
costs for receptions and the HBCU Gala. The CP committee also spearheaded the “Backpack Initiative”
soliciting cash and backpack donations for the Blessings in a Backpack Initiative at Syn-Lod.
National Project Highlights
NAACP – provided assistance to the A-TEAAM, membership drive
NCNW – Top Teens of America is the highest generator for youth donations. Most TTA chapters
are 100%. Many members were recruited and life memberships retained
UNCF – Raised over $100,000 total and donated $10,000 at Syn-Lod
TLOD Literacy – compiling a book of literary writings from the membership, back to school
initiatives
Sickle Cell Disease – Raised $25,000 for research, participated in conferences
Black Women’s Agenda - The National President acted as the moderator for the "We Care"
Caregiving panel in Chicago, IL in 2015 and was a member of the panel at the BWA Retreat.
National Partnerships
Keep America Beautiful (KAB) - Participated in the Great American Cleanup, had presenters at most
conferences, and a Top Teen was selected for the (KAB) Youth Advisory Council.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child, Health & Human Development (NICHD) - Introduced the
Bullying Curriculum to the TTA M.O.M.E.N.T.U.M. Program and made it a requirement. It is included in
their chapter meetings annually from February to June and a pre and post evaluation is done to measure
success. A representative from NICHD has attended all National conferences to promote and train.
AARP - This partnership focuses on Caregiving. At every area conference and National meeting caregiving
opportunities are provided in the form of panels, workshops, presentations, luncheons, etc. AARP
