DRED SCOTT MONUMENT PROJECT
The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation was established in 2006 for the purposes of
Commemoration, Education and Reconciliation. (March 6, 2007 was the 150th
anniversary of the United States Supreme Court’s infamous and controversial Dred
Scott Decision in 1857) Harriet and Dred Scott both sued separately, for their
freedom in St. Louis on April 6, 1846.
Their courageous journey resulted in the civil war and the legal abolishment of
slavery with the 13th amendment. Their tenacious fight for their freedom resulted in
the freedom from bondage of the African descended slaves in America. As there was
no statue of Dred Scott anywhere in the world, it was obvious that there was a critical
need to commemorate Mr. and Mrs. Scott and their direct contribution to the
abolishment of slavery. A statue was built in St Louis, MO.
Top Teens of America sponsored by Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. raised over
$11,000.00 to help pay for the statue.
