SPELLING BEE
The Spelling Bee is a competition in which Teens are asked to spell a broad selection of
words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. Top Teens participated on the Local,
Area and National levels. The winners from each Area advanced to the National Level.
The 1st place winner at Syn-Lod was Teen Kira Willis (Area One-Dallas Chapter) and the
2nd place winner was Teen Raven Miller (Area Three-South Suburban Chicago Chapter).
Teen Kira Willis – 1st place Spelling Bee Winner with Lady Catherine Miles (Area Three TTA Advisor), Lady
Evelyn Ramsey (Dallas TTA Advisor) and Lady Janice Scimmons.
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK NATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT
Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that feeds school children in the
United States who currently are fed during the week by federally funded Free and
Reduced Meal Programs. Each TTA chapter was asked to donate backpacks filled with
specified food to a school or homeless shelter in the city of their Area/National
conference. At Syn-Lod in St. Louis, over 1,000 backpacks were filled by the Top Teens
in attendance were provided to six different entities in the St, Louis area.
