more advanced coding
classes such as Python. You
can also study data science,
learn SQL, and skill yourself

C++, C#, Swift, and R. They
also offer a catalog for
businesses.
Guitar Lessons
· - There are all sorts of
places online to learn how to
play the guitar. Just Google
“guitar lessons” or search for
guitar lessons on YouTube.
The best training will be paid
training, but if you're just
starting out and want to test
the waters, guitarlessons.com
offers free online guitar
lessons.
Cooking Classes
· - If you want to learn how
to cook, PopSugar has a list of
12 free online cooking
classes.
Nikon School Online
· - Photography is another
skill you can learn for free
online. Ther are plenty of
places to go if you just Google
“ o n l i n e p h o t o g r a p h y
lessons.” In this case, camera
manufacturer Nikon has a
series of free classes in
p h o t o g r a p h y a n d
videography.
Business Training
· - Learning how to start and
manage a business is not easy.
Learning on the job is free, but
when you consider that most
new businesses don't survive
past five years, and many don't
make it beyond the two-year
mark, it pays to gain some basic
business knowledge before you
start. Open Culture lists over
100 free online business
c o u r s e s f o r w o u l d - b e
entrepreneurs. These range
from basic business strategy to
financial accounting.
Investing Classes
· - O n e w a y m a n y
companies secure new clients
is by teaching those clients how
to perform tasks related to the
company's core competency.
TD Ameritrade, for instance,
has courses for its clients that
t e a c h t h e m i n v e s t i n g
principles. By the same token,
investment research and data
firm Morningstar offers
investing classes.
If there is anything you want to
learn, there is likely a way to learn
it online. You just have to find the
right resource. And much of the
training is free.
One category of online training is
called Massive Open Online
Course (MOOC). These are online

training classes that are offered
through some of the above
platforms, and many of them
offer certificates of completion
or other proof of training.
MOOCs are available to
individuals and often to
businesses so that employees can
upskill. Some industries, such as
real estate and accounting, have
online training resources
available for continuing

Coronavirus Pandemic Reveals
New Possibilities in Education

coronavirus pandemic.
Schools across the country
have been closed, and
students thrust into remote
learning. Teachers, in many
cases, have had little or no
time to really prepare to
deliver this different form
of instruction.
Parents have also been
tasked with helping to guide
students, as they juggle
their own work from home.
Some education leaders are
concerned about students
falling far behind in their
studies, and rightfully so.
Others are saying this is a
major turning point, a black

education, as it will never
be the same after students
return to campuses.
Often, it takes losing or
things to be revealed.
Possibilities existed all
along, but we become
complacent, and do not see
them until a major shift,
like this pandemic, occurs.
Then, it's like drawing back
the curtains or raising the
blinds, the light comes
shining in. In my opinion,
this situation has shed light
on many new possibilities
inherent in our education
system. For instance:

educators were actually
using them pre-corona
virus? These possibilities
to connect with students
remotely were there, but
we have relied heavily on a
face-face educational
model, despite the fact
that much of society now
operates using a social
media, technologically
distanced lifestyle.
I ' m n o t s a y i n g t o
abandoned face-to-face
instruction in k-12 schools
or higher education. All
I'm saying is we have
demonstrated that we
can use other tools to
supplement—and ideally
enhance--the instruction
