Oncologist Honored with Prestigious
National Cancer Award
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) has awarded Juan C.
Paramo, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., the prestigious Cancer
Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award. Dr.
Paramo is one of only 55 physicians, from 1,600 nation-
wide, to be recognized.
Dr. Paramo, an attending surgeon in the section of
Surgical Oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center Dr. Juan C. Paramo
Comprehensive Cancer Center and assistant clinical pro-
fessor of surgery at Nova Southeastern University, is a role model for his physician peers
and the cancer center staff.
Aventura Hospital and Medical Center
Recognized Physician of the Quarter
Aventura Hospital and Medical Center recently recog-
nized Nikhil Bhardwaj, M.D., Critical Care and Pulmonary
Medicine as the Physician of the Quarter.
Dr. Bhardwaj has been on the medical staff of Aventura
Hospital since 2000. He is certified by the American Board
of Internal Medicine in Critical Care Medicine and
Pulmonary Disease. His Residency and Fellowship are

Orthopaedic Surgeon Preetesh Patel,
M.D., Joins Cleveland Clinic’s
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
Preetesh Patel, M.D., joins the Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Florida.
Most recently, Dr. Patel was with the Cleveland Clinic in
Ohio, where he completed his adult reconstruction fellow-
ship. A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons and the American Medical Association, Dr. Patel
is eligible for his certification by the American Board of Dr. Preetesh Patel Broward Medical Center
Orthopedic Surgery.
Neurologist Joins Staff at Good
Samaritan Medical Center
Neurologist Sonia Tolgyesi, M.D., has joined the staff
at Good Samaritan Medical Center, announced Chief
Executive Officer Paul Echelard.
Dr. Tolgyesi has been in practice for more than four
years, two of which have been with the Sunrise Medical
Group in Plantation.

Cleveland Clinic in Florida Adds Three New
Physicians to Department of Gastroenterology
Cleveland Clinic in Florida announces the addition of three physicians to its
Department of Gastroenterology. The new physicians include Javier L. Parra, M.D., spe-
cializing in inflammatory bowel diseases, biliary and pancreatic diseases, and capsule
endoscopy; Alison Schneider, M.D., specializing in gastrointestinal motility disorders,
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and female issues in gastroenterology and hepatology;
and Roger Charles, M.D., specializing in inflammatory bowel diseases, capsule
endoscopy and diseases of the small bowel. Dr. Charles will serve as chairman of the
Department of Gastroenterology.

Awards
Darren Hoffberger, D.O.,
FCCP, and Jonathan Harris,
M.D., were recently awarded
the Physician MVP awards at Dr. Darren Hoffberger Dr. Jonathan Harris
Broward Health North
(NBMC). The award is given quarterly to doctors who go above and beyond their call of
duty.
Dr. Hoffberger, a pulmonologist, is very active at North Broward. Dr. Harris is a neu-
rologist who has been practicing at North Broward for more than 15 years.
Dr. M. Narendra Kini Appointed
President/CEO of Miami
Children’s Hospital
M. Narendra Kini, M.D., MHA, has been appointed
President and CEO of Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH).
Dr. Kini, who is board certified in pediatric emergency
medicine and holds a master’s degree in hospital adminis-
tration, comes to Miami Children’s from the corporate
offices of Trinity Health in Novi, MI, where he has served as
Executive Vice President of Clinical Operations Dr. M. Narendra Kini
Improvement from 2004 to the present. Dr. Kini has also
served in upper level leadership positions with GE Healthcare Leadership Institute, GE
Medical Information Technologies and with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in
Milwaukee, where he held the position of Vice President of Clinical and Support
Services.

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
Eduardo C. Alfonso, M.D., the Edward W.D. Norton
Professor of Ophthalmology known for his clinical expert-
ise in diseases and surgery of the cornea and ocular micro-
biology, has been named interim chairman of Bascom
Palmer Eye Institute which serves as the Department of
Ophthalmology of the University of Miami Miller School
of Medicine. Dr. Alfonso will also serve as director of
Bascom Palmer’s patient care facilities
