8. Degrees of Comparison
Some adverbs like adjectives have degrees of comparison and they are formed in the same
way.
Read the given examples :
(i) Jasmeet ran fast .
(ii) Jasmeet ran faster than Ishita.
(iii) Jasmeet ran fastest among them all.
In the above sentences, 'faster' and 'fastest' are the comparative and superlative
degrees formed by adding '-er' and '-est' to the adverb fast.
Adverbs of one syllabus form their degrees by adding '-er ' and '-est ' respectively.
Positive Comparative Superlative
fast faster fastest
near nearer nearest
soon sooner soonest
loud louder loudest
big bigger biggest
-ly
Adverbs ending in ' ' or '-lly ' form their degrees by adding 'more ' and 'most '.

happily more happily most happily

swiftly more swiftly most swiftly
