G. Long-answers questions.
1. ‘Sun is the major cause of change in weather’. Explain.
Ans. The Sun is the primary driver of weather changes on Earth. Its solar radiation
heats the Earth's surface unevenly due to the planet's tilt and rotation, creating
temperature differences. These differences cause air movement, forming wind and
weather patterns. The Sun's heat also leads to water evaporation, cloud formation,
and precipitation. Additionally, it affects atmospheric pressure, contributing to wind
formation. Seasonal changes occur because different parts of the Earth receive
varying amounts of sunlight throughout the year. In short, the Sun's energy is essential
for creating the temperature variations, wind, and precipitation that constitute our
weather.
2. What is the relationship between weather, climate and adaptation?
Ans. Weather, climate and adaptation are closely related.
Weather refers to the short-term atmospheric conditions, like rain or sunshine that
we experience daily.
Climate is the average weather pattern in a region over a long period, such as the hot,
humid climate of a tropical area or the cold climate of the polar regions.
Adaptation is how living organisms adjust to their environment to survive. For
example, camels have adapted to live in the hot desert by storing water in their
bodies, while polar bears have thick fur to keep warm in cold climates.
In summary, weather is the day-to-day condition, climate is the long-term pattern,
and adaptation is how organisms cope with these conditions to survive and thrive.
3. Differentiate between weather and climate.
Ans. The differences between weather and climate are given below :
