Renting Tires Solves Sales Problem

HEN you think of a tire station, you think of a fellow who bought a few
hundred tires, procured a license, rented a store and went into business. That
was the way that Harold Holt started. His investment in equipment and stock
was under $300, but he didn’t set the world afire. It wasn’t until a friend
advised him to learn something about business management, that he began to
realize the reason he was not making enough to cover expenses was because
of his inexperience. So he inquired about a business management course and
enrolled with a well-rated correspondence school. After he had been studying
for three months, be began to change things. He completed the course in
eighteen months, but long before that, he had placed his business on a sound,
profitable basis, and was well on his way to his second thousand dollars.

“At first I had the notion that all the business management course would
teach me was bookkeeping methods, and other things like that, which would
produce no revenue. My bookkeeping didn’t have to be systematized. What I

principle. I was surprised at the amount of profit there would be in it. But I
had no conviction that any man would want to rent an auto tire. It might be
