If you want to become great at selling, you must be trustworthy. Remember, that
even one mistake here in this area can cost you dearly. When we give our word it must
stand, no matter what. Gone are the days of empty promises, promises and more promises.
Promise less and deliver more if you have to in order to maintain the trustworthiness factor
in the minds of your clients.

Here is another intangible characteristic that will either make or break you in
sales. Dishonesty is one of the surest ways to poverty and mediocrity in selling. It’s easy to
tell lies. It’s easy to mislead people. It’s easy to shade the truth for your own benefit.
Honesty is telling the truth as you understand it. It means speaking candidly. Tell
the truth even if it means you might not get the sale. If you get a reputation as a dishonest
person, you might as well find another occupation. On the other hand, if you get a reputation
as an honest person, you’ll be assured a good living in your present occupation.
