ANCHOR OF MY SOUL YOU REMAIN
In these times we’re living in a lot of uncertainty remains to be seen. Witness just what
flashes on the screen of your television every single time you turn it on. The news are not
what they ought to be.
Or should be nowadays objective reporting and analysis of the current events is lacking
among most news castors. I remember when the only tv station was VOK and the programs
ran from four in the afternoon till eleven at night.
And the station would start airing with a song from the coast playing a tune with nzumari and
when the shows would end there was always what we called the epilogue ... a short prayer to
end the day!
Now we have twenty four hour news and programming that airs from sun up till midnight
and there is really nothing much in terms of entertaining and informative shows being aired
by the many tv stations that came on board.
Since the migration from the analogue signal to the current digital one all we see on tv are
programs that don’t reflect the state of affairs in the nation. We borrow so much junk from
outside while trying to emulate western ideals in our own local shows.
I can’t watch the screen for more than a second without seeing an ad selling plots of land and
other commercial pieces of property and how this has come to be the new phase of
development in the country.
Were so oblivious to the fact that when the property market collapses it will sink the
economy of this nation to the bottom of the well like it did in the case of countries like Spain
and the US.
And the betting ads that have everyone hooked like tin foil thinking if i can just win the lotto
ill escape the poverty trap that has us caged in like a rat in a maze! And the youth are the
most venerable lot in society.
They are the ones being targeted by these betting firms like they have all the resources they
need to keep betting while at the same time maintain a healthy balance between going to
school and getting a well paying job.
Which by the way the same govt that allowed these betting institutions into the country is the
same one that promised to create 500000 jobs each year while at the same time offer
internship programs for kids who have finished their university education.
