Pharmacy Benefits

DRUG COSTS INCREASE BY ABOUT 15-20% EVERY YEAR.

Follow these directions to save money

• Carry your ConnectiCare ID card in your wallet and show it whenever you fill a prescription. Use a
participating pharmacy.

• Whenever possible, ask your doctor to prescribe generic drugs. They’re effective, FDA-approved,
cost less, and contain the same active ingredients as brand-name drugs.
• If no generic is equivalent available, stick with brand-name drugs listed on lower-tier levels in the
ConnectiCare Prescription Drug List.

• For the most up-to-date drug list, go to www.connecticare.com and select Pharmacy Center.
We update the list frequently, so check back often. You can also request a printed copy by calling
(860) 674-5757 or 1-800-251-7722, or by e-mailing us at info@connecticare.com. Once you’re a
member, you can e-mail us through our secure messaging online.

• If your doctor doesn’t prescribe a generic drug, ask your pharmacist to call him/her to suggest one.
You could lower your out-of-pocket cost. Most plans will automatically substitute generics for you.

• Some medications covered by ConnectiCare need prior approval and some have quantity limits.

Prescription drug pre-authorization

Drugs that require pre-authorization are identified on our drug list with a “PA” next to their names.
Make sure your physician contacts ConnectiCare before prescribing these medications. To learn
more about the types of drugs we manage:
