More About Simply Noticing
To simply notice is to be aware—to pay attention. Simply noticing has
nothing to do with asking yourself why you are the way you are, although
these answers may become obvious to you as you learn to simply notice
you being you.
In taming your gremlin, it is important to simply notice how you are—
not why you are how you are, but how you are. Thinking about and simply
noticing are very different processes.
Thinking about is a preferred activity of your gremlin. It’s a way of
keeping you out of touch with the natural you—the observer.
Simply noticing, on the other hand, is what happens when you
experience the natural you and your surroundings without input from your
gremlin.
Thinking about is, of course, a boon and a thrill much of the time. While
you are certainly not just your thoughts, you would be a bore without them.
But when it comes to Gremlin-Taming, simply noticing is more efficient
and effective than thinking about. Simply noticing is the first and most
™
important step in the Gremlin-Taming Method . Your equipment for simply
noticing is your awareness.
