“ When I first saw this hotel in Alix, Alberta I thought
it was rather unremarkable. But when I walked into Above/ Imperial Hotel - 1904
the lobby and saw the old photo on the wall I was Below/ Now - Big Bubba’s Bar & Grill
instantly awed. The old girl was just the second
structure in Alix. When she was built in 1904 there
wasn’t even a street in front of her yet ! “

Above/ Main Street - circa 1910 “ The main street of Girvin, Saskatchewan is seen in
Below/ Summer of 2019 about 1910 and in 2019. The red structure at left was
a one-of-a-kind horse-watering station. It is now a
protected historical site. The orange barricades on
the right show where the last remaining building on
that side of the street was recently brought down.”

I hope Thom’s ideas and work will inspire you to seek out
your own adventures and search for the faces of the past
and the stories they tell. Time is pressing ahead so quickly
and we are losing these pieces of history.
