Initiation of hypertension treatment with single
pill combination is preferred strategy versus
stepped-care approach
Initiation of treatment preferably with an SPC comprising two drugs, to improve the
speed, efficiency, and predictability of BP control is recommended, in most patients.
1 Pill
Use monotherapy for:
A) Low risk grade 1 (without any risk factor, disease and HMOD).
B) Frail, older patients ( Age≥ 80y/o )
Use beta-blocker:
A beta-blocker in combination with major classes is an alternative when there is angina,
post-myocardial infarction, heart failure, or heart rate control, atrial fibrillation, or
younger women with, or planning pregnancy.
