THE GRANGE THE GRANGE

 LETTER FROM TYPICAL HOUSE

A LOWER SIXTH ACTIVITIES OVER A YEAR

I joined the house as a lower sixth student last September,
after previously being in the state school system. However, I AUTUMN TERM SPRING TERM SUMMER TERM
found I quickly settled into the house environment and that
many of my housemates were from even more contrasting
locations than I was (nearly the other side of the world, in
fact). Very soon I, like most teenagers, got tired of the sound
of my alarm when even the sun hadn’t risen yet. Fortunately,
I was also quick to make the most of the days when we have
breakfast in house – normally all school meals are at the
canteen on campus. This did not prevent roll call, which is
like a register for houses in the morning and evening, but
it did mean we could enjoy a nice sausage bap at the same
time. HOUSE TOUCH RUGBY CAMPUS SPORTS HOUSE BBQ

there together. You might make certain ‘best’ friends within
the house environment, but the feeling of togetherness
within a house is something I hadn’t experienced at any of
my previous schools. Another good way to get to know the
people in your house is through inter-house competitions
that, despite Covid-19, made me feel more of an equal with
my housemates and gave me the feeling of being in the
 whole experience of Millfield together.

My personal interests at Millfield, as a music scholar, include
music and performing with the great array of ensembles GLASTONBURY TOR WEEKEND HOUSE GAMES GOLF IN THE GARDEN

Millfield, I also enjoy sprinting and I am a 400m athletics
specialist at the school, as well as taking part in academic
competitions like the Physics Olympiad. All these pursuits
start from a good house giving you the confidence you need
to go out into Millfield and get on with what you enjoy. I love
the feeling of waking up in the morning and hearing the rest
of my house also struggling to get out of bed – at home it
would be another hour before I saw another soul!
