NICHOLAS ERIC FRENCH…..
HOW WILL YOU HANDLE THESE CHALLENGES ?
FACING ADVERSITY Caused by COVID-19 Pandemic, Systemic Racism, Blacks Murdered by Police:
My motivation in facing adversity is fueled by the one phrase “history should not be witnessed, it
should be lived”. Throughout this summer, I am constantly reminded of this fact as I experience
immense change from every direction cultivated by people my age. I owe it to my grandchildren and
generations onward to be a generator of change in the march for progress, as I want them to know that
their ancestor placed his body and spirit in the movement for a greater world. This thought motivates
me through every letter
KEEPING YOUR FAITH In God to Overcome the Adversities You Will Surely Face:
I pray each night to remind myself of the necessity of gratitude and humility. College, at its worst and
best, can feel like an arena of uncertainty and unbridled newness. Every day is a plunge into the
unknown and incredible. I need a strong footing in the Love of God to maintain my foundation in the
wilderness of this unknown. God, in His Peace and Grace, connects me to my ancestors and a wisdom
that I cannot see, but I can feel. It is this Power and Strength that give me the clarity to reach the calm
within any storm.
STAYING COMMITTED TO ACHIEVEMENT Academic Success, Individual Development, and Spiritual
Growth:
My family; My Mother especially. It is her smile that nourished me and gave me strength as I walked
my first steps through this life. It was her strength that carved a space in this world for me, through my
education and growth both scholastic and spiritual. Every day, I wake up and live this life so that I can
one day provide for my family and the world that created me.
