BLAIR CROMWELL…..
(CONT.) My name is Blair Carlo Cromwell. I grew up on the Eastside of Detroit. I have a strong educational
foundation that included graduating from Cass Technical High School and accruing over 40 credits towards
my Associates Degree from Wayne County Community College. My mother works in the Healthcare field
and my father works for the City of Detroit. In the Fall I plan to attend Michigan State University to major in
Physical Therapy and minor in Business Administration. The Scholarship from the Southfield Kappa Founda-
tion will assist with my goal as a young adult with alleviating the cost of college from my parents to be-
come more fiscally independent. After College and receipt of my degree, I will remain focused and visible
in my community while remaining well rounded, self-motivated and a change agent. I will take what I have
learned and apply it to, everyday life which will make me stronger. After college, I will be encouraged more
than ever to make changes in young black students lives.
HOW WILL YOU HANDLE THESE CHALLENGES
FACING ADVERSITY COVID-19 had an impact on my life as well as those around me. The school sys-
tem took all precautions and switched to online learning. My mother works in the healthcare field and I
was nervous each day she went to work for fear that she would contract the virus. I was unable to see
my grandparents for several months because I wanted to ensure their safety. Through it all I believe
that I adapted well to change and coped well to the best of my ability. I remained steadfast with not
only my studies, but also in the area of community involvement. My concept of community encom-
passes more than where I live, play, or attend school. Community also means a place where problems
are solved and people in need are assisted by others in the community.
As a young black male, I am outraged at the treatment my brothers face in society today. Each and eve-
ry day I walk out my front door I run the risk of getting hurt or brutally murdered by the police. I find
myself trying to remain positive by telling myself that I can make a difference and I am the face of
change for our Nation as a whole. The issue of police brutality is not going to go away and cannot be
ignored.
KEEPING YOU FAITH I am committed to remaining a child of God. I know that I am not perfect but I
try each and every day to commit to doing my best because I know that is all God asks of us. I know
that my faith will guide me throughout my journey into adulthood to ultimately be the best version of
me.
