                                      Construction Technology




                          Construction Fundamentals/Carpentry
                          10th or 11th                                                                                 1 year, 2 periods, 2 credits
                          Prerequisites:                                                                                                          Application

                          The Core provides students with the basic skills for employment in the construction trades. In
                          this class students will have an opportunity to obtain their OSHA 10 Hour Card, and industry
                          credential that is a benefit on a resume or job application. This course focuses on jobsite safety,
                          how to use hand and power tools, construction math, reading and interpreting blueprints, rigging
                          skills, material handling and employment skills

                          The Carpentry course will build and improve the skills learned in the first semester using practi-
                          cal experience. Students will interpret drawings and plans as they study methods of framing and
                          techniques. Students will layout and frame walls, determine and frame door and window open-
                          ings, set joists and calculate, layout, cut and erect rafters. Other skills include laying decking
                          and  underlayment  to  roofing.  Students  will  study  and  discuss  and  use  some  energy  saving
                          methods and techniques as new and amazing products continue to develop.

                          Plumbing/Electrical
                          11th or 12th                                                                     1 year, 2 periods, 2 credits
                          Prerequisites:                                                                          Construction Fundamentals
                                                                                            application

                          Plumbing students in this course will learn the basic entry plumbing skills needed to start a ca-
                          reer. Those skills include installation of drain waste and vent using PVC pipe and fittings, how to
                          make up supply systems using copper (seating copper), and PEX systems. Students will rough-
                          in  for  bathrooms,  laundry  rooms,  and  kitchen supply  and waste  systems.  Students  will  learn
                          specific plumbing codes and sanitary rules for plumbing. .

                          The Electrical course will prepare students for the start of an electrical career. The course be-
                          gins with electrical safety and the hazards associated with electrical current. Students begin with
                          understanding typical residential wiring systems, over-current protection systems, cables, con-
                          ductors, Ohm;s Law and Kirkcuff’s Law. Students will calculate values for series and parallel
                          circuits including voltage drop and values at each resistor. Students will become familiar with
                          the National Electric Code and practice many of the NEC’s codes.
