             PAF SMS UPDATES
PAF SMS Developments and Safety Engagements
During the second quarter, the PAF achieved significant progress in strengthening its safety culture through
various initiatives aligned with the SMS framework. Notably, the Air Force Safety Office (AFSO) conducted the
1 Air Force Safety Summit on 02 May 2025, bringing together 298 participants from across the PAF and other
                st
service branches to foster inter-service collaboration and elevate safety awareness.
This was followed by the Safety Promotions and Aeronautical Achievements Awarding Ceremony on 29 May,
which recognized outstanding contributions to flight safety. The AFSO also hosted a series of virtual forums,
such as the Safety Forum and Townhall Meeting/Workshop aimed at aligning all safety personnel with
               established SMS standards.
Additionally, the CG, PAF Flight Safety Award was deliberated in connection with the 78th PAF Founding
Anniversary, further strengthening the culture of safety recognition and accountability. The AFSO supported
operational advancements such as the installation of geodetic control stations for RNAV approach
development, while also completing Stan/Eval assessments of flying units. Compliance with the iSHaRe hazard
reporting system reached 91%, reflecting improved responsiveness to safety concerns.
               Assessment
Overall, the PAF continues to institutionalize SMS concepts across all levels of command. However, the period
also revealed operational constraints. Delays in standardization check rides and Annual Physical Examinations
(APE) were noted due to aircraft availability, checker shortages, and prioritization of MTF resources for non-
               flying personnel.
               Recommendations
               Continue SMS Implementation:
Unit Commanders should continue efforts in implementing the PAF SMS 50 parts deliverables.
               100% Stan-Eval Compliance:
Flying Units must ensure 100% compliance for Stan/Eval check rides and practical exercises for aircrew.
               Monitor APE:
Unit Commanders should direct and monitor the start of APE for flying status personnel 90 days before their
birthday to mitigate the impact of the PAF-wide Mandatory APE (MAPE).

                                                                       nd
