Ricochet... the Surf Dog Ricochet was on hand to welcome attendees to the opening of
2008-2023 CSM’s Adaptive Surfing Exhibit in 2019. The 15-year-old Golden
Retriever was a pioneer of canine-assisted surf therapy, helping hun-
dreds of PTSD-afflicted veterans, special-needs children, and other
challenged individuals find comfort in catching waves.
A recognizable figure at countless charity events, Ricochet raised
over a million dollars for her favorite subjects – whether two-legged
or four – and her work earned her numerous awards and a loyal fan
base.
Judy Fridono, Ricochet’s owner, who was with her from birth
to her passing in late March, added: “People believe in Ricochet’s

BOBBY SAKODA 1951-2023
Local artist, potter, musician and shaper Bobby Sakoda passed away on
January 26. Quiet and unassuming and blessed with a sharp sense of humor,
Bobby was a highly skilled craftsman and perfectionist.
His surfing career included shaping for Donald Takayama, and later creating his
own line of custom surfboards.
In 2021 he loaned CSM several templates and tools for
our Takayama shaping room display.
(Several special remembrance plaques are on permanent display
at CSM. This courtesy is available to anyone interested).
