                                                       Greetings

Greetings are expressions that are almost always used by people when

meeting someone, both people they know and those people they do not know. The
greeting is usually used at the beginning of a conversation. Before getting to the

main topic of conversation or the main topic to be discussed, generally, someone
will start first with a greeting. Greetings in every culture have different styles,

that's why there are various forms of greeting or ways of greeting. The greeting
also depends on the context, namely the situation, purpose, and also their

chatting partner. There are several ways to express greetings apart from using

words as well as expressions and gestures, such as smiling, nodding, shaking
hands, hugging briefly, and others. However, greetings to teachers, lecturers,
parents, and colleagues usually serve as a form of showing respect. So, it can be
concluded that the social function of greeting is to maintain relationships besides

                  showing attention and respect.
