30 Slips Trips and
Falls
When connecting of disconnecting the chains the driver must ensure that each eye hook
is correctly connected to the lug of the skip so to prevent the chain from swinging out and
hitting either a driver or a passing person.
1. The correct PPE must be worn at during this process.
2. When lining up to vehicle with the trailer drivers must be aware of the
surrounding area and any pedestrians.
3. The trailer brake must be applied on the trailer at the start of the process and is
the last procedure to be completed.
4. The vehicle locking lever (serial 3) must be in a down position before the driver
drives off.
5. Once the vehicle has reversed onto the rear of the skip trailer the skip lorry skips
can be transferred from the skip lorry to the trailer or the trailer to the lorry
following. This procedure is as per the SSoW for collection and delivery of skips.
6. Do not be rushing whilst completing this procedure and ensure that you have
completed the safety checks. If the driver is interrupted during the coupling or
uncoupling stage of the vehicle then he is to STOP, gather his thoughts run
through the procedure in his head then continue were he left off.
